For DKU undergraduate students, a semester at Duke (known as the DKU@Duke program) will provide the opportunity to experience student life on Duke’s beautiful campus in Durham or at the Duke Marine Lab in Beaufort, North Carolina. DKU undergraduate students can choose from thousands of courses and engage with Duke faculty and students both in and outside the classroom. They have opportunities to join student groups, programs, research projects, and activities alongside Duke peers, as well as with other DKU@Duke students. Studying at Duke will allow DKU undergraduate students to get truly immersed in the Duke community and to become an integral part of it during their DKU academic journey.

DKU undergraduate students considering a semester at Duke should contact the Office of Global Education at DKU during their sophomore year. We strongly encourage attending information sessions before applying.

FAQs

The FAQs below will answer some general questions about the study away program at Duke. DKU undergraduate students can find additional FAQs and information on the DKU Global Education Sakai site.

In a typical year, notwithstanding eligibility exceptions granted because of COVID, DKU undergraduate students can study at Duke during the Fall or Spring semester of their junior year.

Course registration for the semester at Duke will occur during the term prior to arrival on campus and will be available once enrolled to the study away program at Duke. DKU undergraduate students will be able to register for any Duke undergraduate level classes that are open to all students, assuming any prerequisite requirements are met. Certain courses require instructor permission to enroll; permission is granted on an individual basis directly by course instructors. DKU undergraduate students will be registering for Duke classes at the same time as their Duke peers. Typically, DKU undergraduate students visiting at Duke live in Duke housing on or near the Duke campus. DKU undergraduate students will submit a housing application that allows them to indicate preferences for certain options and also for roommates.
